This street festival is an example of how a local event can survive economic vicissitudes and grow into an international event. The International Children and Youth Theatre Festival, also known as Yalla Yalla festival, is an initiative of Al Harah Theatre in Beit Jala and it currently attracts theatre groups, music performers and circus artists from Palestine and Europe and has become a label of Bet Jala’s cultural life. Among the founders of the festival who insists on the creation of “a strategy that includes all sectors, governmental, nongovernmental and the private sector, in order to keep Bethlehem on the map every single day of the year and not only during religious seasons.” Among other professionals in his field, believes that depending on mainstream tourism is not enough, and puts emphasis on cultural and artistic activities.
