The village of Battir was built over the ruins of the Biblical Bethar, and Khirbet Al Yahud, or the Ruin of the Jews, is considered one of the most important sites in the village of Battir, as it commemorates the last stand of the Jews during the Bar Kocba Revolt between the Romans and the Jews. It is a multi-layered archaeological hillock with relics from the early Bronze Age up until the Roman times.
