The Church of the Annunciation, which is known in Arabic as Al Bishara Church, serves the local Catholic community, and is located in the eastern part of Beit Jala. It was founded in 1858 by decree from the Ottoman government, and operates under the auspices of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem. The Church is situated in a complex that also includes the Patriarchal Seminary for training students from Palestine and Jordan who wish to enroll in religious studies, indulge in a spiritual experience and eventually join the priesthood. The complex also includes a secondary school.
