The Palestinian Heritage Centre was the idea of a Palestinian woman, who believed in the importance of promoting, reviving and preserving Palestinian cultural heritage. From traditional dresses, authentic jewelry, furniture, antique household items and embroidery – the Centre has it all! The Centre, which was established in 1991, commenced with the arts of embroidery and traditional dressmaking, employing women from nearby villages and refugee camps, and giving them the opportunity to earn their livelihoods. As the Centre evolved over the years, it established a permanent exhibition, offered awareness presentations on the history and significance of Palestinian costume, especially among Palestinian youth and tourists, and worked diligently to revive the tangible and intangible aspects of Palestinian embroidery. The Centre boasts a fully-furnished traditional Bedouin tent, which exhibits artefacts from Palestinian daily life. Guests have the opportunity to sit in the tent, relax, and enjoy a cup of Arabic coffee. There is also the living room – à la Palestinien –an elegant space charmingly adorned with Palestinian art and antiquities, where guests could drink coffee and watch videos on the history of Palestine. The journey does not end there! The Centre also features a collection of old Palestinian photographs and a collection of Palestinian books and other references.
