The Beit Jala Mosque is located in the Old Core and surrounded by four churches: St. Nicholas, Church of the Annunciation, the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Lutheran Evangelical Church. The beautiful building has arched windows, a green volt, and surrounded by white marble columns and palm trees. It also has the uppermost minaret in Bethlehem. Inside, a lot of marble was used in the architecture, in addition to modern chandeliers, a beautiful wooden carved podium and a colorful carpet. The mosque also possesses and library that features a large number of Qurans and other precious books. Its construction began is 1960 with funding from a Palestinian living in Kuwait, but it was not until 1978 when it was completed due to the outbreak and aftermath of the Six-Day War. The mosque is a symbol of peace and tolerance between the Christian and Muslim inhabitants of Beit Jala.
