The Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans (BFTA) was established in 2009 with an aim to improve the livelihoods of marginalized Palestinian producers through fair trade, by assisting them in seeking new markets to promote and sell their products. This fascinating adventure encompasses olive wood workshops, women cooperatives, ceramics and blown glass factories, basket weaving, jewelry making, felt wool, recycled cards and recycled glass. BFTA also endeavors to educate artisans by providing them courses in English language, information technology, quality management and control, pricing methods, basket weaving and embroidery, to name a few. BFTA is not only about fair prices, but also about caring for the environment, raising awareness about fair trade, monitoring health and safety during the production process, and most of all, about promoting peace.
