Ush Ghurab Public Peace Park

Publicspace

The park is located east of the city of Beit Sahour on top of a hill spread over an expansive land of almost 400 dunams. The area used to serve as a military base until 2006, when joint efforts between several local entities from schools, nongovernmental organizations, local businesses and international donors, managed to conduct numerous renovation and restoration works to transform the land into a public park. Ush Ghurab or the “Crow’s Nest” is distinguished by its ecological and agricultural wealth. The Municipality of Beit Sahour managed to restore and restructure the place to include a huge stage, a restaurant, a climbing tower, and a football field. Considered the only spacious area in Beit Sahour, where families come and enjoy their time in a natural environment that is safe and secure for children, Ush Ghurab has become a success story for peaceful resistance. With joint efforts between the municipality and the Palestine Wildlife Society, a small educational zoo was established in the park with an aim to preserve wildlife and provide a source of education for the local community.
